This special chutney from Jam Packed is made using an old family recipe passed down. It was developed many years ago one year when there was a glut of courgettes in the garden. This award winning chutney is not too highly spiced, so works well with milder cheeses. It also makes the perfect partner for a pasty!
Chutney originates from India and is made from combining fruit or vegetable with spices, an acid and a sweetener. Rather than sugar, the main preservative in chutneys is vinegar. All of Jam Packed chutneys take several hours to cook and should be allowed to mature for at least six weeks before eating to allow the flavours to blend and mellow, producing the characteristic rich fruity flavour. There are no added artificial flavours, preservatives or sweeteners.
Ingredients: Courgettes, apples, onions, dark brown sugar, distilled malt vinegar (from Barley), red peppers, ginger (sulphites), water.
Jam Packed Preserves is a family run business. They make an extensive range of artisan, award-winning extra jams, jellies, marmalades, chutneys and curds. All preserves are lovingly hand-stir in small batches in open pans. The story began in 2006. From an allotment that had a large stand of autumn raspberries that produced a glut of fruit. Wanting to avoid food waste Sue telephoned her Mum and asked how to make jam. The rest is history!
