Our courgette chutney is made following my grandmother’s recipe and was developed many years ago one year when there was a glut of courgettes in the garden. This award winning chutney is not too highly spiced, so works well with milder cheeses. It also makes the perfect partner for a pasty!
Chutney originates from India and is made from combining fruit or vegetable with spices, an acid and a sweetener. Rather than sugar, the main preservative in chutneys is vinegar. All of our chutneys take several hours to cook and should be allowed to mature for at least six weeks before eating to allow the flavours to blend and mellow, producing the characteristic rich fruity flavour. We use granulated or soft brown cane sugar in all of our chutneys and do not add any artificial flavours, preservatives or sweeteners.
Our chutneys have a best before date one year from the date of production and will be fine kept in a cupboard, larder or other cool, dark, dry place for many months; once opened they should be refrigerated and used within 3-4 weeks.
